A few figures confirming that Hydrotop ranks among the major international events on water: 1,000 decision-makers in attendance, 17 countries represented, 5,000 business appointments At the end of three intense days of meetings and debates, the simultaneous events of Hydrotop 2005 and the Assises Méditerranéennes à l’International (AMI) attained their goals of synergy and joint development. In fact, nearly 1,000 participants from 17 countries attended appointments offered at the Partnership Convention and the various Workshops, Round Tables, and Conference Forums. Many important delegations from the world of water came to Hydrotop 2005 from southern Mediterranean countries, in particular: the Secretary General of the Water Resources Ministry from Algeria, the Deputy Minister for the Environment from Libya, the Environment Directors of the cities of Istanbul and Ankara from Turkey, the Ministry of Water and the Environment and the governorate of Alexandria from Egypt, the Minister of Hydraulics from Niger, the Water and Sanitation Director from Thessaloniki in Greece, the Palestinian Water Authority, and the delegation from the Ministry of Water and Energy from Jordan. The Scientific and Technical Conference, with a program of six Workshops and four Round Tables, has without question remained the high point of the event. Participation by top international speakers, who have come to compare their experiences and results, has mobilized the interest of the present parties involved in water management; more than half of the Workshop and Round Table audiences came from the southern countries. For the first time, a special "Training and Employment" day was organized at HYDROTOP. Supported by the European Social Fund, and under the aegis of the Regional Labor Office, the forum made it possible to inform and sensitize students and job-seekers about careers in water. It is worth noting that the latter were mostly young graduates from the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. This initiative, which met with a favorable response from organizers and participants alike, will certainly be repeated in the future. The "Risks Connected with the Sea" conference organized at Hydrotop by the Ministry for the Economy, Finance and Industry, with many prestigious speakers, attracted more than 450 listeners on the afternoon of Thursday, March 17. |
